4 Year Old James

It is still hard to believe that we have a 4 year old, but we do.  James went in for his 4 year check up and he did well.  He is 3'3" and he weighs 39 lbs.  He passed all of the physical development requirements with flying colors (we were never worried about that).  The only thing we didn't check off of the "typical 4 year old" list was that he tires easily.  If he is sick he might tire easily, but he usually doesn't seem tired or worn out.  He likes to pick out his own clothes now and he is excited to do his chores and he is very pleased with himself when they are all done.  He also loves to help around the house, he will help me with the laundry or Jon with the dishes.  He will pick up all of the toys without being asked and he loves to organize.
We like to do art projects and he loves to draw.  He drew a picture of himself grocery shopping, he bought eggs and bananas(that is what we bought at the store the day before).
He has fallen asleep in different places.  He knows that he is not allowed to turn on the light during bed time because Michael needs to sleep, so instead he brought his books to our bed and fell asleep reading them.
He also fell asleep underneath the train table in the stuffed animal basket.  I never thought that it would be comfortable, but I guess it was good enough to sleep in.
He enjoys reading books to Michael(when he thinks that no one is listening), and he will sing him a song to calm him down if Michael gets upset.  He also loves to tell stories and act out his day with his toys.  During rest time I often hear him telling Phoebe and Daisy stories or other stories.  I love to listen in because I think that they are so funny.
He is doing very well in Pre-School.  He can count to 50 now and we are working on spelling 3 letter words.  We are also working on simple addition with him.  It is not a requirement to get into Kindergarten, but simply because he is interested in learning it right now.  He knows all the things that the other kids are being taught in his class, but he does not know how to sit still during circle time, or to stop talking when the teacher is talking.  He also doesn't know how to stay in his classroom, so those are the main things his teachers are working with him on and that we are trying to work with him on.
The picture above is of James and Michael racing up and down the halls at church.  According to James "school is closed because it was canceled!", we had a snow day due to near blizzard conditions.  We didn't get any new snow but there was a lot of blowing snow.  We took advantage of the empty church and let the boys run out their energy.
Here is a picture of Michael playing with his tape measure.  Jon and I went out on a date (to Lowes to buy curtain rods and to dinner) and Pastor Fenske came over to watch the boys.  Before we left he told James that we would come home with a gift for him and Michael.  While we were at Lowes we decided to pick up a measuring tape for both boys.  They love Jon's and they play with his anytime the tool box is within their reach, so now the each have their own.  I think I will buy them their own tool boxes for Easter and they can start their own tool collection.
