After church on Christmas day James and Michael snacked on a few items as we kept them up from their normally scheduled naps and Jon and I loaded the van and checked our lists. Then Pastor Fenske came and dropped us off at the airport.
James was so excited to go to the airport and to see everyone. He kept running in circles and anytime someone asked him what Santa brought him he would say "ride an airplane up and down, side to side to see Grandpa, Grandma, Benjamin, Paul, Baby Bo, Bella". He also enjoyed riding the escalator up and down while we waited to go through security. James and Michael did very well on the airplane, they slept and looked out the window. We also bought James a pair of kid headphones for the trip and he was very excited to use them. We arrived in CT around 11:00 pm, all of us were tired but I think James was just so excited to be there and to see everyone.
It was a constant state of mess, which is normal for everyone.
Michael with Aunt Becky.
Benjamin was counting all of his cars to see which color he the most of, it was red. That number did not include all of his Lighting McQueens either.
Barb and Becky playing Just Dance which was Becky's Christmas gift.
Benjamin and Grandma.
Michael and Grandpa.
Real early Thursday morning Benjamin and James looked out the window and they were excited to see the snow but they were also very disappointed because it was raining and they could not play in it.
James was thrilled to see that Benjamin and Paul had Thomas trains and tracks.
The rain did stop and so we were able to go outside. It was a beautiful 30' day, the snow was very wet but everyone had fun including Michael.
Of course James had to try and push the tractor in the snow.
Jon's way of building a snowman.
Becky likes the old fashioned way.
A job well done!
You can't possibly play in the snow without tasting it a few times.
Jon decided to build a few miniature snowmen in the driveway, he wanted to see if Grandpa and Grandma would stop and not run them over thinking one of the kids built them.
They barely lasted two minutes once James spotted them so Jon never found out what would have happened.
All the boys in the snow.
James had been waiting and waiting and waiting for Bella, Bo, Uncle Ryan and Aunt Rachel to arrive so that he could open up some presents. As soon as they walked in the door he shouted "yeah, open presents, open presents!!!!". We had to tell him he had to wait a little longer, he was happy to run up and down the hall with his cousins and play on Paul's bed.
Michael was not concerned with opening presents.
The best shot I could get of all the kids.
Aunt Rachel with Michael.
Grandma made Jon and James matching pajamas, hats, mittens and a scarf. Of course it is Star Wars. Jon was modeling his set and below is a picture of James wearing part of his and playing Mario Cart with Dad.
Opening gifts was very chaotic and confusing. Each kid except Bo and Michael was very eager to open every gift. I think it really overwhelmed Michael because as soon as the dust cleared he conked out on Grandma. Everyone went to go and play with the new toys and Michael was able to nap in some what peace but definitely not quiet.
There was a big snow storm on Saturday night and so we had to wake up really early on Sunday to go the airport. So around 3:45 am we pulled out of the driveway and Uncle Jonathan drove us to the airport. Despite the time and the fact that we were all tired, James and Michael did very well on the plane rides back home. When we finally did arrive home around 1:00 pm, Michael took a 3 hour nap and James took a 4 hour nap. We all had a great time and we are so happy that Becky was willing to host, and James started asking when we were going to take a plane ride again to see Benjamin and Paul.
