International Peace Gardens

We went to the International Peace Gardens which are located on the borders of the U.S. and Canada.  The Peace Gardens opened in 1932 as a symbol of friendship.

This is the 120 foot Peace Tower.  The four pillars represent the four corners of the earth where people immigrated from to Canada and the U.S.  Two legs are in Canada and two are in the U.S.

The Peace Chapel.  This is the only building straddeling the borders.
Enclosed in glass is a book with all the names of those who perished on September 11, 2001 from the wreckage of the New York World Trade Center.
Etched in the limestone that is embossed with fossils, are quotes from people of peace.

The following are a few pictures of the family.
It was raining that day, which is why everyone has their hoods on.

The Gane Warden Museum had many animals that were confiscated at the borders.

James was fascinated with the animals.
He was also very excited to see an eagle.
Bo was so excited about the two bears that were there, he kept running back and forth between them.
A stuffed grizzly is the only one I am willing to get my picture taken with.

In May of 2002 10 steel girders from the World Trade Center were brought to the Peace Garden.

The Bell Tower.
The cascade panel runs along the border of the two countries.  If you look closely you can see the flags of the countries on either side of the little stream.
