James is learning so much so fast, sometimes I think it is too fast. James has three jobs to do around the house, the first one is to help set the table for a meal. He enjoys doing this because it means we will eat soon. He knows where his dishes are kept and where the silverware is and he likes to get those items himself. He is still learning how to set the table, like Dad does not need two forks and I don't need two cups, but we will get there.
His second job is to help clean the dining room floor after dinner. He does this with Jon usually while I am taking care of dinner. Jon sweeps the floor and James holds the dustpan and then he carries it to the trash where I open up the can for him to dump it in. The other night I was upstairs taking care of laundry when it was time to clean the floor and Jon told me that James took the dustpan into the kitchen and opened up the trashcan all by himself. He also said that James was very proud of himself for being able to do that.
Knowing where the dishes are and being able to open the trashcan are two helpful things that I am very proud of him for figuring out. If you are wondering about his third job, it is to get the paper in the morning, another job he loves to do especially if someone is out walking their dog.
However, there are a few things that he knows how to do now that I am not sure if I want him to know them or not. He knows how to turn on the tv, vcr and dvd player to watch a show. He also knows how to put in a dvd and if he turns off the dvd player and turns it back on he knows that it will play the movie automatically. He does this for snack time after a nap, which is the normal time for us to sit together and watch something. But he also does it when I tell him that he cannot watch something, and he decides that he doesn't need my permission and just does it.
He has also learned how to put a cd into his cd player and push play so that he can listen to music while we are playing in his room. I don't mind this one too much, except I don't want him to break the cd's, he still needs to learn how to be gentle.
He does keep me on my toes and I am so thankful that he is a clever little guy who loves to learn. Jon and I know we have to be careful now with what we do in front of him because we don"t want him changing the thermostat or turning on the dishwasher or other things like that.
I also posted a couple of pictures so that way you can see him. The one below shows him with one of his favorite activities, taking the cushions and pillows off of the couch. There he decided to use a pillow as a chair instead of using the cushions on the couch as a comfy place to sit.
