The weather is starting to get colder, and one solution to keeping the house warmer was to put up some shades. I did not want to pay for already assembled ones so I went out and purchased some canvas and decided to make my own. Thankfully, Jean felt some compassion for me when I told her what I was doing and that I was sewing them by hand and she took all of my fabric and sewed the hems on them for me. Then James and I stapled the fabric to wood and Jon screwed them into the windows. I am very proud of how they turned out and I am hoping to make a few more for the rest of the windows in the house.

The family room with them pulled down. James loves this because at night the shades are pulled down and he can still play on the radiator without the curtains getting in the way. We close the curtains after he goes to bed.
