James fully understands the word no, and he does know what he is and is not allowed to do. However, he tries to get around it and I try not to let him see me laugh. Here are a few of the things that he tries to get away with. He is not supposed to touch the electronics (tv, vcr), so instead he will make his cars push the buttons on those things because then he is not touching them. He has the same logic for the Christmas tree ornaments, he is not allowed to touch them, so his cars and toys touch them for him.
There are a few kitchen drawers that we do not mind him getting into, and there is one, the top one that he is not supposed to get into. It contains the pizza cutter, metal kabob skewers and other misc. When he sees me go to the bathroom (which is off the kitchen), he will open the drawer grab something (usually the can opener because it is up front) put it in his bucket close the drawer and carry it around. Then I guess he isn't touching anything and because the drawer is closed by the time I get out of the bathroom I guess nothing happened. Never mind the fact that I could hear everything :).
The last thing I will share about my rule breaker is that he is a peeker. Another thing he will do when I go to the bathroom is grab a gift from under the tree and try to open it. When I come out he will either run and hide with the gift or leave the gift and run because if he is not there at the crime scene than he did not do it. I also would have to ignore the pacifier and little bits of wrapping paper on the carpet that say he did do it. I have learned that next year the gifts will come out on Christmas Eve after he has gone to bed so when he sees them he will get to open them up.
